David Protein Founder Peter Rahal Is Coming for Candy — Meet HallPass

The founder behind RXBAR and David Protein is coming for the candy aisle next.

Peter Rahal has teamed up with Stuffed Puffs founder Michael Tierney to launch HallPass, a new candy company built around a simple idea: make candy that tastes like the classics, but with dramatically fewer calories and less sugar. HallPass operates as a sister company to David under parent company Medici Brands.

The "Coke Zero of Candy"

Rahal has described the idea behind HallPass as essentially building the "Coke Zero of candy" — giving people the familiar candy experience with a fraction of the calories without charging the premium prices normally associated with better-for-you snacks.

HallPass is launching with three products:

• Peanut Bups
• Peanut Creme Crispy Wafers
• Chocolatey Candy Pieces

The initial products are being promoted at just 70 calories per package and 1g of sugar, while targeting the flavors and textures of traditional candy-bar favorites.

HallPass Hits Walmart August 29

Unlike David Protein, which initially built major momentum online, HallPass is going straight for mass retail. The brand officially hits Walmart stores nationwide on August 29, 2026.

The launch has already generated attention online — including intentionally leaving bizarre AI-generated spelling mistakes in promotional imagery as what co-founder Tierney called "rage bait" to get people talking before launch. The actual retail packaging will not contain those errors.

After RXBAR and the explosive rise of David Protein, Peter Rahal taking a shot at traditional candy with HallPass could make this one of the most interesting food launches to watch in 2026.
